What is Comscience schools?

OBSERVATORY OF SCIECNE COMMUNICATION

Comscience Shcools is an open initiative to approach science to education. It has a clear aim: connect scientific research with educational environment. It pretends to develop a critical and sensible thinking through an educational model based on open data and scientific method.

Through this project, students of ESO and Bachillerato will develop a perspective of how research projects work including a wide view of Open Science. Besides, they will acquire the ability to make apps that will let them participate as active citizens at society.

The project “Comunicación eficaz, eficiente y responsable para los proyectos de investigación competitivos” is framed at “Proyectos de I+DI del programa estatal de investigación, desarrollo e innovación orientada a los retos de la sociedad” announcement of the Economy, Industry and competitive ministry of Spain government (CSO2017-82875-C2-1-R). It belongs to activities related to Science outreach with the main purpose of connect scientific research with educational environment.

What is our purpose?

Every day we receive a lot of information spread by many sources that we don’t really know.

The information that we obtain at school and media shape our reality. For instance, the media flow of social networks and medias affect in our personal and leisure activities.

In several cases, the information is specialized on scientific field. Consequently, we need to have the abilities to know what kind of info is really true.

To get success in this process is completely required acquire competences and digital skills that provide us tools to interpret the scientific information. The competences have to be consolidated while students are at high school because they actually need them to participate at society, take decisions as capable citizens of XXI century and they might involve at social science agenda (UK´s National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement).

To achieve this, Comscience schools approach actions to be active and democratic citizens at society in the near future.
