This time, at Ciberimaginario, we are testing a new tool called Zapworks. Although the platform does not have native xAPI integration, its approach to immersive content creation is very intuitive and simple, which makes it easy to produce lightweight augmented reality experiences.
This is the main feature of the tool, as it focuses on designing AR experiences to be viewed on mobile devices or tablets, although not on computers. Within Zapworks, we also find the Mattercraft feature, which allows the creation of WebXR scenes using HTML code, expanding design possibilities, albeit in a less intuitive way.
To enjoy an experience designed with Zapworks, once we create the augmented virtual environment, the platform generates a QR code that we can scan with our mobile or tablet. This allows access to the environment through an immersive content viewer app or directly via the browser.
Among the advantages of Zapworks are the lightweight and simple production of AR experiences and the ability to view them through a browser. However, there are some limitations. If the website becomes unavailable, we could lose access to the experience. In addition, it is not possible to create WebXR directly, although it can be done with Mattercraft, but in a less intuitive way. It is also not possible to download a file to upload it to our own server, and it does not include xAPI integration.
Finally, the platform offers different paid plans that provide additional benefits when designing experiences.
