On this occasion, we analyze SimLab Composer as a suitable option for creating immersive virtual reality (VR) environments, deployable both in browsers and on VR headsets. This tool enables the professional production of interactive experiences thanks to a comprehensive interface with extensive functionality. While its learning curve may be steeper compared to more intuitive tools, we believe that investing time in mastering it is worthwhile, as it allows the creation of highly professional and customizable environments.
Although the interface may seem complex at first, it does not pose a significant barrier if its options and workflows are explored in detail. Another notable aspect is that it is a desktop application, allowing scenes to be edited locally without relying solely on the browser. To view the experiences on a computer, the corresponding SimLab viewer must be used. Additionally, the platform is compatible with VR devices for immersive viewing of exported projects, which we are currently exploring.
Regarding its features, one of its strengths is the ability to export content in formats compatible with e-learning standards such as SCORM and xAPI, facilitating the integration of VR experiences into LMS platforms and enabling learning tracking (VR Evaluation).
Currently, the tool is primarily focused on creating virtual reality experiences, although it also allows content to be viewed in augmented reality (AR) through specific viewers.
